NEW REPRESENTATIVE RULE FROM SUMMER 25/26

From Summer 25/26 Mornington District Basketball Association will be introducing a new Representative Player Rule in our junior domestic competitions.

Basketball Victoria recently updated PlayHQ to assist associations in being able to manage representative player points within PlayHQ. The new points based system will be in place for all teams up to Under 16s with a representative player cap for all Under 18s teams.

The new representative rule aims to:

• Reduce teams becoming overly dominant due to having too many representative-level players;
• Aims to create a more even playing field across all teams, increasing the competitiveness of matches with players competing in their natural age group;
• Reduces the number of blowouts or one-sided games, making the sport more enjoyable for all participants;
• Maintains the spirit of junior community sport, focusing on development rather than just winning.

We are aware that minimal teams (12) will be impacted by the rule in the upcoming season. Club based teams and independent teams over the coming week will receive an email with each team’s points and if they will be impacted for the upcoming Summer 25/26 season. We are providing you with this information now to ensure you have enough time to make any necessary changes. To ensure we are fair and consistent to all teams there will be no exemptions granted.
